Château Phelan Segur, Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel

Bordeaux > Saint Estephe - 51.00% Cabernet Sauvignon; 47.00% Merlot; 2.00% Cabernet Franc

Château Phélan Ségur is located in Saint-Estèphe. It was created in the 19th century by the Irishman Frank Phélan, who merged two estates, Clos de Garramey and Château Ségur immediately made a very unusual decision: to construct a building that would be at the same time his home, his wine cellar and his vat room.
The 89 hectares of vines are an average of 35 years old. They are planted on clay-gravel rises facing the Gironde estuary. The vineyard is managed plot by plot for maximum quality control and low yields. Winemaking takes the best from both traditional and modern approaches. The aim is to bring out Phélan Ségur’s intrinsic qualities of power, concentration and balance. Following the sale of their Champagne houses Pommery and Lanson, Xavier Gardinier and his three sons purchased Phélan Ségur in 1985.
