Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey was built in an astonishing Hispanic-Byzantine style and is one of the architectural treasures of the Sauternes region. The château is quite ancient, and its porch and towers date back to the 13th century. Long owned by the Lords of Bommes, the estate later passed into the hands of Monsieur Pichard, President of the Bordeaux Parliament, and owner of Lafite. The property was acquired in 1795 by Monsieur de Lafaurie. This inspired winegrower gave the château tremendous new impetus and contributed greatly to its widespread reputation for excellence. Fifty years later, Lafaurie-Peyraguey was classified as a first growth in the famous 1855 classification. Located a stone’s thrown from Château d’Yquem, Lafuerie-Peyraguey’s soil, on Pyrenees gravel slopes, is ideal for producing superb wine. The wine is both subtle and complex. Absolutely brilliant in great years, Lafaurie-Peyraguey is also well-known for consistently charming, well-balanced wines whatever the vintage year. The dedication of the team, led by Georges Pauli, and their commitment to perfection, comes through in every glass of this great wine.
