Château Coutet, 1er Cru

Bordeaux > Sauternes - 75.00% Semillon; 23.00% Sauvignon Blanc; 2.00% Muscadelle

Château Coutet, one of the oldest estates in the Sauternes region, has an outstanding terroir and architectural heritage. Owned by the Lur Saluces family for over a century, the estate is currently managed by Philippe and Dominique Baly. The fine gravel deposited by the nearby Garonne river lies atop limestone subsoil. Morning mists alternate with warm sunshine during the last days of summer to bring on the development of a unique fungus, Botrytis cinerea. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The grapes are entirely handpicked in several waves and pressed three times in vertical basket presses. The wine ages in new oak barrels for 18 months.
