Château Citran, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
Bordeaux > Médoc - 50.00% Cabernet Sauvignon; 50.00% Merlot
|
Château Citran, classified a cru bourgeois in 1932, is one of the most ancient feudal estates in the Médoc, with records going back to 1235. The Marquess de Donissan later purchased the château, which stayed in his family for 600 years.Vines were always grown at Citran, but the vineyard was not laid out in a rational way until the 19th century, under the ownership of Monsieur Clauzel. The estate went through a period of intense development when owned by the Miailhe brothers and then the Cesselin family, who were passionately committed to producing quality wine. After 9 years of Japanese ownership, Citran became French again in 1996 when purchased by the Merlaut family, much-respected winegrowers with deep roots in the Médoc. Citran is now in top form, fully expressing the soil's fine potential. The 100 hectares of excellent gravelly soil, combined with efficient winemaking equipment, have enabled this estate to give the great growths a run for their money.
